Equipment
Many years of work in icy conditions led great professionals to create this machine
Frost Dragon
The large centrifugal fan of the machine takes the cold air from the environment to the heating zone and releases it at high speed through two side outlets reaching between 50 to 60 meters on each side. These areas will be protected for 10 minutes during the advance through the technically drawn circuit. In this way, the hot air machine can protect 10 crop hectares for 5 hours.
The heated air (adjustable between 80°C and 100°C) is produced by a burner and it is expelled at a speed enough to displace the cold and stratified air at crop level.
These wedges of hot air take between 10 and 12 minutes to dissipate into the atmosphere. During that time, the mobile fan heater must go through the same place again to replace and add new volumes of hot air and thus preventing the plant tissues from freezing.
Assistance and patents
Technical assistance
The Company markets a “product/service” system where the client has personalized and comprehensive advice before making their investment and after it. For this purpose, our agronomists visit the property, take into account the type of crop and the location of it, and design the circuit that the machine must go through in order to obtain the best results. Specialized technical personnel is in charge of the delivery of the equipment and training in its use, staying with the client as long as necessary for their complete learning.
The company’s staff is permanently available for the client to clear up doubts.
Patents
The Frost Dragon machine has been patented in different countries, which is a guarantee for our clients that it complies with the regulations of the World Trade Organization.
In Argentina, it is protected by Patent No. AR011140B1 of the National Institute of Industrial Property.
It is also patented in The United States, Australia, New Zealand, China, and Europe.
Functioning
Directions of use
The air at the outlet has a temperature between 80°C and 100°C, at 1 meter it has already dropped to 20°C, at 50 meters the temperature is approximately 0.5°C, and at 130 meters it is around 0.3°C.
The air loses this rise in temperature in approximately 10 minutes, which is why the machine must pass through the same area every 10 minutes. This factor determines the surface that the machine is capable of controlling. As the air moves, it is recommended to cover between 40 to 70 meters on each side. Taking this into account, the route can be adjusted to take advantage of the time interval.
If the time exceeds 10 minutes, a section of the route may be omitted in order to cover more meters on each side. The surface that a machine can control in 10ha will depend on the shape and design of the crop. The tractor must have at least 40 HP at power take-off and 65 HP at the engine.
Like all frost control systems, it is recommended to start operating with temperatures of +2°C. The machine is capable of maintaining its temperature regardless of the weather outside, even if there is a temperature below 0º.
This happens because the machine generates its own microclimate. To put it in other words, it creates a layer of thermal inversion at the crop level and fuels itself on the same heated air. It is very important to put thin plastic strips about 2 meters long to determine if there is wind and its direction. A breeze or light wind may help spread the hot air through the area by placing the machine and following the route in the direction the wind is blowing.
